Dark Chocolate Reduces the Risk for Diabetes



The health benefits of dark chocolates keep increasing and now studies have shown that the ingredients in dark chocolate could help prevent obesity and type- 2 diabetes. Cocoa, the basic ingredient of chocolate is one of the most flavanol rich foods that help to control the blood sugar level.

According to the report based on mouse study, Flavanols, a type of antioxidant in cocoa, help to prevent from excess gaining of weight and lowers the blood sugar level. The report appears in ACS’ Journal of Agricultural & Food Chemistry. However, all flavanols are not created equally and provide different health benefits.

Cocoa contains different kinds of flavanols and studies have shown that a particular type known as Oligomeric Procyanidins (PCs) is the most effective one. This plays a major role in keeping the weight down even on consuming high-fat diets and also improves the glucose tolerance level. Therefore, consuming dark chocolates reduces the risk of diabetes as it controls your blood sugar level.
